[Instructions for a performance reading of the poem:

1) Print poem on single sheet of paper.
2) Bring poem and scissors to an open-mic poetry reading.
3) Pass poem and scissors to audience with the instructions that each person is to cut out an identical word then pass it on.
4) When they are through, ask them to compare words, discussing their similarities and differences.
5) This is the poem.

Variations:

a) The first person in the audience given the poem and scissors is actually a plant – a confederate – and cuts out the word “dent” from the 1st instance of “identical”

b) If using a confederate, other variations may include having him or her cut out “i”, “ide”, “dental”, “dial”, “tale”, other words or random letters from a single line fo the poem.

c) Although the confederate can also cut out a variety of words or letters from any line in the poem, this is preferred less than the above variations.]
