collage poetry

I composed the above sitting at my dining room table almost 24 hours after the tragic events at the Sandy Hook Elementary School.

The text was not cut from news accounts of the shooting appearing in Saturday’s paper.

The text was cut from 2 consecutive, facing pages of the 12/14/12 Philadelphia Inquirer’s Weekend Entertainment section, which hit doorsteps here around 6AM Friday morning – roughly 3 hours prior to the horrific events in Newtown, Conn.

What does it say about our culture that the words necessary to provide an elliptical rumination on a mass killing can be taken from 2 consecutive pages of the entertainment section of a major daily newspaper printed only hours before the tragedy?
