“Idle Reverie”

What if we set out on a small lake
But pledged not row the boat ashore;
Took great pride and great delight
Throwing off our final oar
And spun alone and floated
Wherever destination be
And declared our boat a kingdom
Named “Idle Reverie.”
What is so wrong
And what rules would we break
To declare our aimless kingdom
In a small boat on a lake
And rule over it as king and queen
Until the day grows dim —
Knowing all the while
We well know how to swim.
